The Cottonmouth or Water Moccasin is a snake that occurs in almost all habitats here in Florida. I have found them in grass fields, 7 feet up in a palm tree, freshwater swamps, streams, lakes and ponds, salt water estuaries, and in swimming pools. Welcome to Florida. The Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake occurs throughout Florida. This small snake is very prolific and inhabits alot of different habitats.

The Copperhead occurs in Northwestern Florida in a handfull of counties. Here is a Copperhead photographed by Paul Moody along the Apalachicola River.


The Coral snake inhabits almost every habitat in Florida. They can be found in manicured gardens, forest areas, fields, and golf courses. This specimen was found crawling inside of a empty garbage bag on a front porch.
